Waterproof is a system claim
Calling a label waterproof without defining the test is risky. A label may survive a splash but fail after twenty-four hours of immersion. It may resist water on glass at room temperature but lift from a flexible bottle in an ice bath.
Write an exposure profile before choosing stock. Include water source, duration, temperature, condensation cycles, rubbing, cleaners, oil, sunlight, and whether the package flexes. Then test the printed and applied label after normal cure time.

Paper, BOPP and other synthetics
Paper is economical, printable, and attractive for many dry applications. It can use matte or gloss coatings, but damaged edges and prolonged moisture may allow swelling or tearing. Protective varnish or lamination may improve performance while changing appearance and recyclability.
BOPP is a polypropylene film commonly chosen for bottles, cosmetics, food, and refrigerated products. Polyester and other synthetics serve more demanding applications. Each still needs the correct printable topcoat, thickness, opacity, and converting process.

Adhesive and application conditions
Adhesive selection depends on the container surface, energy, texture, curvature, moisture, and temperature. A freezer adhesive is designed for cold conditions, while a removable adhesive prioritizes clean removal. Permanent does not mean suitable for every surface.
Apply labels to clean, dry containers unless the construction is designed for wet application. Record application temperature and service temperature separately. Many failures begin when a label is applied cold, over condensation, or before the surface is free of oil and dust.

How to approve a durable label

Approve the construction by specification and retain a signed sample. If any component changes, repeat the relevant tests. A visual that looks identical can behave differently when the topcoat, liner, or adhesive supplier changes.
