Four-model buying guide
C6000A, C6000P, C6500A or C6500P?
Choose the printable width first, then decide whether each label should stay on its liner or be peeled for immediate application.
Quick answer
The C6000 family prints up to 4.25 inches wide; the C6500 family prints up to 8.34 inches. A models have an automatic cutter. P models peel and present a label for application. The wider C6500 does not accept a larger internal roll: its maximum roll outside diameter is 6 inches, compared with 8 inches for the C6000.
Compare all four models
All four use a 3-inch roll core and model-compatible SJIC35P pigment cartridges. The P models have a different minimum media width. Confirm the exact SKU, media construction and finishing requirements before ordering.
Print width is not media width
Print width is the area the printer can image. Media width includes the liner carrying the label. A roll fitting between the guides does not mean artwork can extend across that entire width.
For example, a C6500 can feed media up to 8.5 inches wide, but its specified print width is 8.34 inches. Leave the margins and registration allowance required by your stock and print settings. Include liner width, core, roll OD, gap or black mark, winding and label length in the roll specification.
Choose A for cutting, P for immediate application
Automatic cutter: C6000A or C6500A
Choose an A model when labels remain on the liner for batches, transport to another workstation, later application or a compatible rewinding setup. Decide whether to cut each label or only separate jobs. Cutting frequency changes actual throughput.
Peel and present: C6000P or C6500P
Choose a P model when an operator or compatible applicator needs one peeled label at a time. The label-taking sensor coordinates the next label with removal. Confirm integration with the equipment supplier and test your actual face stock, liner, die cut and smallest label size.
Do not assume cutter and peeler hardware can be interchanged after purchase. Select the output configuration with the complete workflow in mind.
Match inks, maintenance and blank labels
Use the C6000/C6500 SJIC35P ink family and the SJMB6000/6500 maintenance box. Gloss-black and matte-black printers have different black-ink configurations. Reorder for the installed printer; do not change black type simply because the next label roll has a different finish.
Start with C6000-compatible label rolls or C6500-compatible label rolls, then confirm the selected variant's complete roll dimensions. Similar-looking ink cartridges and rolls are not interchangeable across all Epson models.
Pigment ink and a synthetic face stock do not guarantee freezer performance, waterproof printing or legal compliance. Those outcomes depend on the coating, adhesive, container, exposure and tested configuration. BS 5609 claims apply only to the documented certified combination.
Test the busiest real job
- Use the widest label and smallest required text or barcode.
- Print the real artwork on the intended stock at the required quality setting.
- Time loading, printing, cutting or peeling, inspection and application together.
- Check ink drying, registration, barcode verification where required, and adhesion after expected exposure.
- Confirm software, connection, roll handling and supply part numbers before purchase.
Rated speed is print-engine speed under specified conditions, not a promise of finished packages per hour. A wider format or a better application step can matter more than the headline speed.
Check the complete setup
Send the label dimensions, printer shortlist and application details for a fit check. If the decision is between brands, use the separate Epson versus Afinia L501 comparison.
